Cruising the Gulf Intercoastal Waterway - Fort Walton Beach to Pensacola

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

Travis and his Chapparal 270Last weekend, we got a chance to make our 1st ‘distance’ overnight trip of the 2007 boating season in our Regal 2760 ‘Southern Comfort’. South winds made for calm water in the Gulf Intercoastal Waterway as we cruised west to Little Sabine Bay in Pensacola Beach. Our boating weekend would include camping out with friends Travis and John and their family members Friday night, followed by a beach-side church shrimp boil on Saturday. Read on for our trip report and be sure to visit our photo album. (more…)

Emerald Coast Boat Week - Boat-in Movie

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

IMG_6341.jpgA stiff wind prevented a movie from being a part of Emerald Coast Boat Week’s Boat-in Movie night at Fort Walton Landing, but that didn’t stop an intrepid group of boaters from turning out all the same. Let’s hope next Saturday’s weather turns out a bit calmer for the poker run.

Fort Walton Landing

Friday, May 26th, 2006

This is Ft Walton Beach’s nicest waterfront park.  Public dock access can accomodate up to 12 small boats, although the water depth of the slips closest to shore can be less than 3′ which limits their utility.  Overnight docking is not permitted without prior permission from the city.
The park offers a boardwalk, multiple fishing docks, a well-equipped childrens park, restrooms, and lots of room to play.  The Landing plays host to most Ft Walton civic celebrations including the Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival, 4th of July Fireworks, Christmas Ice Skating Rink and Lights, and much more.

The docks are almost always empty due to the overnight restrictions, but we find it’s a great place to pick people up for rides and our kids always enjoy taking a boat ride to the park.
