Cruising the Gulf Intercoastal Waterway - Fort Walton Beach to Pensacola

Travis and his Chapparal 270Last weekend, we got a chance to make our 1st ‘distance’ overnight trip of the 2007 boating season in our Regal 2760 ‘Southern Comfort’. South winds made for calm water in the Gulf Intercoastal Waterway as we cruised west to Little Sabine Bay in Pensacola Beach. Our boating weekend would include camping out with friends Travis and John and their family members Friday night, followed by a beach-side church shrimp boil on Saturday. Navarre Beach Launch Ramp - One of the Largest Public Facilities in the Destin Area

Launch LanesThe Navarre Beach launch ramp is located on the south end of the Navarre Beach bridge about 15 miles west of downtown Fort Walton Beach. This launch facility was built by Santa Rosa county and was significantly improved after hurricanes Ivan and Dennis. Featuring 3 launch lanes and parking for over 100 trailers and tow vehicles, it easily the largest in the area. (more…)

Ft Walton Crabshack Marina and Restaurant

The Ft Walton Original Waterfront Crabshack Restaurant & Marina offers direct access to Santa Rosa Sound and an easy run east to Destin, north to the Bayou’s, and west to Spectre Island and Navarre.

Completely rebuilt after hurricane Ivan in 2004, the Crabshack offers bunk lifts rated for 10,000, 13,500, and 18,000 lbs as well as wet slips for larger vessels. All lift slips are covered, have 30 - 50 amp shorepower, potable and non-potable water, and nearby pumpouts. Free pumpout service is included with slip rental.

Mid-grade fuel and transient pump-outs are available.

Just west of the wet slips is a dredged channel leading to the restaurant dock.
