Jumping Tarpon Headline a Great Boating Morning

Golden SunriseWe had a fortunate chance to get “Southern Comfort” out for a sunrise cruiser early this morning. Calm waters and cool temperatures combined with a beautiful sunrise gave backdrop to an impressive show from a large Tarpon.

Light overnight winds from the north laid down the gulf at sunrise this morning. We made it out to the pass about 0700 just as the sun was clearing the horizon. The tide was running out hard so water clarity wasn’t the greatest, but fish seemed in good supply judging by the number of fishing boats stocking up on baitfish near the jetties.

Baiting up at the East JettyHooking around the jetties to the west, we hoped to spot a few sand or bull sharks. The sun angle made this impossible, but we were treated to the antics of a large tarpon jumping along the buoy line. We tried to get a picture, but never quite got the camera up in time. Dolphins were out in large numbers and we saw numerous active baitfish schools.

We made a good high-speed run between the pass and Brooks Bridge to gather more GPS performance data for our Regal 2760 under different loading conditions. I’ll be adding new performance charts to our 2760 review once I get time to format them. It’s mornings like today where we count our blessings to be Florida boaters.
