Kings Spring Underwater Video - Kings Bay Crystal River Florida

Thumb_defaultWith the approach of winter, hundreds of West Indian Manatees congregate in the warm-water springs which help fill the Crystal River and Kings Bay region of Florida’s western coastline. One of the larger springs is Kings Spring located in the southern end of Kings Bay just off shore from Banana Island. The spring features 2 diveable caves and is within the boundaries of the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge. The video shows a short snorkel swim over the spring and some friendly fish who were in the area.

We did see manatees during our trip, but didn’t manage to get any on tape. We’re planning to return to Crystal River in the next few weeks and hopefully return with nice footage and video of the gentle sea cow. We’re also working on a Google Earth map of Kings Bay complete with recommended areas for manatee viewing. Multiple dive shops and marinas offer boat and equipment rental. We chose the Crystal River Dive Center which had great prices and good service.
