My 270 Amberjack was orderd new at the NY 2005 Boat Show, delivery taken in May of 2005. Boat came complete with aluminum arch, complete electronics (Raymarine C 70, FF,Radar, GPS). Also in place of live well we orderd the starbord back to back seats. Engine is a 300 HP Mercruiser Horizen, FWC. This boat replaced a 2001 290 Amberjack, which we found to be a bit difficult to own. It had 2 250 HP Bravo 2′ drives, which we had switched into from Bravo 3’s due to bad press on corrision. The 270 has almost as much deck room and a walk through windshield ,it does not have a “Walk around deck”. Also on the 290 with the aluminum arch, the walk around space was limited anyway.
The 270 tops out around 36 MPH at 5000 RPM, running on a Bravo 3 drive. The cruise speed is around 26 MPH depending on conditions, at 3800 RPM. We took the Bravo 3 deives on this 270 because Mercury was offering extra warrentes, and said that they had overcome the corrision problem. So far the only corrision we have had has been in the gimble nut. Canvas is good on the boat, but I wish they would use a better quality plastic glass. It is a good boat, good room, and a good storage space. I think the new ones are now offering an aft sleeping area, but the in deck storage is better for us as it keeps gear out of the living area.
