Pirates Invade - Much Fun Had by All
The 2007 Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival winds down with the torchlight parade in Fort Walton Beach on Monday night at 8pm. Friday night saw a good crowd in spite of high winds early in the evening. The finale seemed a bit short, but you can play it back with our video coverage below.
North winds and moderate temperatures created ideal weather for more than 1500 boats which came out for the pirate invasion at the Fort Walton Beach Landing. According to an article in the Northwest Florida Daily News, improved boater temperament, increased law enforcement presence, and more organized anchoring areas combined to alleviate arrests for aggressive behavior which was a problem last year. Boating under the influence arrests ticked slightly up to 18 and there were a reported 13 ‘medical emergencies’ due to accidents.
