Current Winds, Visibility, and Weather for Google Earth
Hot on the heels of our NOAA Voluntary Observing Ship weather report layer, we’re excited to release our latest dynamic weather feed for Google Earth. Our DestinSharks.com Metar Weather Feed displays the latest weather observations for over 1,700 US locations in Google Earth. These observations include wind speed and direction, temperature, dewpoint, visibility, and general conditions. For a comprehensive view of weather in Google Earth, we’ve also created a ’super’ link which includes our new Metar Feed, VOS Ship Feed, NOAA National Nexrad Radar, and NOAA NWS Watches and Warnings.
The Metar weather data is updated 3 times hourly and the map will refresh automatically in Google Earth. You’ll need Google Earth Version 4 - for the Metar Feed to work correctly.
In the combined file, the ship data updates hourly (and uses a slightly different color scale for wind). The NOAA Nexrad radar layer updates every 2 minutes and the Warnings and Watches layer updates each minute. We recommend a good broadband connection for the ’super’ link as the radar images are large and update often.

[…] We now recommend the National Weather Service Ridge/Radar KML service for real-time warning and radar overlays for Google Earth. You can select from a wide variety of regions and overlay types using a simple menu. If you’d like a simple overlay of radar and warning data for the entire US, we have combined links to the NWS National Radar picture and NWS Warnings with our own airport weather layer. […]
